Get to know about various aspects of baseball in my blog.
Baseball is a sport derived from the same roots as cricket. It is played with bats to hit a pitched ball, and gloves to catch the ball. The origins of baseball lend themselves to controversy, but it is indisputable that the first modern rules (the "Knickerbocker Rules") were codified in 1845. The European roots of the game, long neglected by U.S. authorities to make baseball America's game, known long ago by American historians of the sport. The recent highlighting of a description of a match played in 1755 in Surrey (England) will in this SENS1.
However, it is the United States the sport is organized and structured. The first championships will emerge from 1857-1858, professionalism is authorized from 1869 to the NHL was founded in 1876. Thirty franchises, one of them based in Canada, Toronto, evolve at the highest level in Major League Baseball (league also known by the acronym of its English name: for MLB Major League Baseball). Since 1903, the World Series in October against the winners of both leagues forming the MLB.
Managed globally by the International Baseball Federation (IBAF) created in 1938, this sport was practiced usually from spring to autumn is very popular in North America, in some countries of Central America (Nicaragua and Panama ), from South America (Colombia and Venezuela), Caribbean (Cuba, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico) and Asia (Japan, South Korea, Taiwan).
Genesis of baseball [edit]
The alphabetical and analogical dictionary of the French language (Webster, 1985 edition) explains the meaning of theca: Regional (Normandy), Ball Game. The library is at the origin of American baseball. Stick that players use this game
The English game of rounders appears as an ancestor of baseball. The earliest reference to rounders is made in an English book by John Newbery in 1744: A Little Pretty Pocket-Book2. Another important book in the history of the origins of baseball games is The boys printed in Paris in the 1810s. It includes a description of the game of "poisoned ball" that looks like baseball: four bases which one of them is named "house", a launcher, a drummer and teams of ten or twelve joueurs3.
The term "baseball" (or "base ball" as it was written until around 19,204) is already in use in England in the eighteenth century, and then enters the language, literature and the press in the United States during the 1820s. The first appearance in print dates back to April 25, 1823 in New York5. The term encompasses several games like rounders, town ball and the round ball. These games are especially practiced in the Northeast U.S. (New York, Boston and Philadelphia) but also in the central region (Illinois, Ohio and Indiana in particular). However, it is the neighborhoods of Manhattan and Brooklyn that house training as the New York Knickerbockers New York, giving birth to the first modern version of the game baseball6.
In 1845, the first modern rules (the "Knickerbocker Rules") are codified by Alexander Cartwright in adapting those of rounders and town ball. They are adopted September 23, 1845. According to research by the historian Charles A. Peverelly, the Knickerbockers began to play probably formally as 18,427. Thus, the New York Baseball Club celebrates its second anniversary November 11, 1845 while a Brooklyn club plays in the Field Elysean 18,457.
A legend is built from scratch in the early twentieth century by Abner Doubleday invented baseball in Cooperstown in 1839. A centennial celebration of this event is held even in 1939. This legend is rebutted upon its release by many connoisseurs of the game as Will Irvin who publishes an article on this topic in 1909 in the magazine Collier's8. Joe Williams wrote June 13, 1936 in the New York World-Telegram article entitled The Myth of Doubleday (Doubleday myth) 9. Robert W. Henderson is publishing 193,910 of work on the relationship between baseball and rounders and then in 1947, Ball, Bat and Bishop that invalidates the conclusions of the Commission Mills (1908) at the origin of this legend. June 3, 1953, the U.S. Congress officially credited Alexander Cartwright of the invention of sport11 because of its role in the codification of the modern game.
Baseball in the U.S.
In the current state of research it is impossible to accurately determine the inaugural match. By convention, meeting of June 19, 1846 played in Hoboken (New Jersey) 12 acts as the first match13.
The first club convention was held in New York in January 1857 with a dozen clubs in Brooklyn and New York14. An unofficial championship is set up. It was won by the Brooklyn Atlantics. In March 1858, the National Association of Base Ball Players (NABBP) is established in New York by sixteen clubs always from Brooklyn and New York15. Until the Civil War, dozens of clubs "New York Game" are installed throughout the U.S. and adopt the rules of the Knickerbocker. At the end of the war, sport affects the entire country when soldiers return to their homes. They were introduced to gambling by New Yorkers of their régiments16.
The first professional training was born in 1869 (Cincinnati Red Stockings) following the authorization of the professional status by December 9 NABBP 186,817. The first major league was founded in 1871 by former clubs NABBP; it takes the name of National Association of Professional Base Ball Players (NAPBBP). The current National League was founded in 1876 and the AHL becomes a major league in 1901. The World Series between the champions of both leagues are set up in 1903.
Babe Ruth
The American national game ("national pastime") is experiencing a tremendous scandal in 1919, the Black Sox involving several players from the Chicago White Sox for corruption during the World Series. Judge Kenesaw Mountain Landis was appointed as commissioner of major league and he remains in office from 1920 to 1944, imposing an iron discipline in the world of baseball, but empowers owners of the players. The first players' unions were formed in 1885, but not until 1966 and the creation of the MLBPA players get to see significant progress. Conflicts with strikes in 1971, 1982 and 1994 marked the stormy relationship between players and owners about their ability to transfer and fixing a minimum wage, among others. The most important strike was that of 1994-1995 which caused the cancellation of 938 games and all games of the playoffs and even World Series in 1994.
Among the most famous players of the year 1870-1945 include Cy Young, Christy Mathewson, Honus Wagner, Walter Johnson, Ty Cobb, Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig and Joe DiMaggio, among others. These stars of major league players are all white because black players were at the end of 1880 the ban on playing in major league. The agreement between the franchise owners is validated in 1896 by the Supreme Court of the United States (Plessy v. Ferguson). Black players like Satchel Paige then evolve into "Negro Leagues" 18, a powerful symbol of American segregationist policies.
Jackie Robinson
This situation continued until 1947 with the arrival of Jackie Robinson with the Brooklyn Dodgers. Robinson was hired by the Dodgers' general manager, Branch Rickey, and Major League begins in April 15, 1947. Victim of numerous racist attacks, Robinson is good and paves the way for black players in Major League Baseball (MLB). Since 2000, April 15 is celebrated by the MLB as the "Jackie Robinson Day," while his number 42 retired in 1997 across all the franchises MLB19.
Since the debut of Robinson, the principal players were Stan Musial, Mickey Mantle, Sandy Koufax, Yogi Berra, Warren Spahn, Hank Aaron, Pete Rose, Cal Ripken, Jr. and Ted Williams. Today, Roger Clemens, Alex Rodriguez and Barry Bonds are among the most famous players.
Inaugurated in 1936, the Hall of Fame baseball ("Hall of Fame") honors the memory of the main players, coaches, referees, owners and managers of Major League Baseball, Negro Leagues included. After the election of Andre Dawson 201,020.21 January 6, 292 individuals were included in the prize list, including 239 players (including 35 of Negro Leagues), 18 coaches, 26 referees and nine pioneers and dirigeants22.
The first reference to the term National Pastime (national pastime) dates back to 188,923. As popular sport, football, baseball competition for half a century. The rocker appears to occur in mid 1960. In 1965, a survey still gives a distinct advantage in baseball over football by 38% against 25% (45% - 23% in 1964) 24. In 1967, American football for the first time takes the advantage by 39% against 29% 24. Baseball reached its low point in 1975. That season, the tight final between the Boston Red Sox and Cincinnati Reds passionate viewers, at the same time reviving public interest in a subject which had been suffering for ten years an image of sports passé24. Since then, the crowds are clearly rising to record highs in early twenty-first century. In 2007, 79,502,524 people attended the 2425 games of the regular season MLB, or an average per game record of 32,785 spectators and an increase of 4.5% over the season record of 200,625. In addition, 42,812,812 spectators filled the stands of minor league stadiums in 2007. It is also a record for Minors25. Year of economic crisis, 2009 was marked by a slight decline in attendances. With 73,418,479 spectators in the regular season Major League, the 2009 vintage is the fifth largest in the history of the MLB26. In 2010, professional football stays ahead of the favorite sports of Americans (31%) to baseball (17%), NCAA College football (12%), motor sport (7%), the professional men's basketball (6%), ice hockey (5%), the college basketball (4%) and men's football (4%) 27.
International Baseball [edit]
The Tokyo Dome in Tokyo
The export of baseball began in the late nineteenth century. In 1864, Cuba sees appear the first traces of baseball. It was not until 1868 that the first club was created in 1878 and for the first championnat28. The ball will then appear in the Dominican Republic 186 829, in Japan in 1872 (first team in 1878 and founded the first national championship in 1920) 30, 187 731 in Mexico, Panama in 188232, in Nicaragua in 1888 (the first professional championship in 1956) 33, in Taiwan in 1895 (the first professional championship in 1990) 34, Korea in 1905 (the first professional championship in 1982) 35, Netherlands in 1900 (federation founded in 1912 and the first championship in 1922) 36. Baseball's status as national sport in Cuba, Taiwan, Nicaragua, Panama, Puerto Rico or the Dominican Republic in particular. South Korea and Japan, football becomes a solid concurrent37.

In Canada, a Canadian-American professional league has been in place since 1886: the International League, which resulted from the merger of the League of New York, founded in 1885, and the OHL, also created in 188538. The International Association had already experimented with the concept of Canadian-American League in 1877, but stopped after two saisons39 experience. It was not until 1969 to witness the creation of the first Canadian franchise of Major League: The Montreal Expos moved to Washington in 2005. The Toronto Blue Jays, created in 1977, remains the only Canadian team in MLB. In the minor leagues, some Canadian officials are still present, but many leagues formerly US-Canadian become exclusively American. In Triple-A, the elite minor league, the League of the Pacific coast (Pacific Coast League) separates from his last Canadian franchise in 2002, ditto for the International League (International League) in fall 2007.
The first baseball game played on French soil takes place March 8 to 188,940 during the Universal Exhibition in the World Tour41 Spalding. This is a match between a player selection of the National League and the club of Chicago White Stockings. Clubs and competitions are emerging in Paris before World War mondiale42. The federation was founded in 1924 and the Championship of France was established in 192640.
The International Baseball Federation established in 1938 recognizes 112 national federations. It organizes the World Cup of Baseball. Baseball is an Olympic sport from 1992 to 2008 but lost that status after the Games Pékin43.
For half a century, the Cuban baseball lives, like the countries subject to U.S. embargo in near autarky. Some Cuban players manage to leave the island, sometimes incredible. The best of them join the Major League. Latest case, Aroldis Chapman, a young Cuban pitcher who made the beautiful July 1st 2009 during a trip to the national team in the Netherlands. He signed a six-year contract for $ 30 million in the Cincinnati Reds tard44 six months. These defections do not facilitate the already stormy relations between Cuba and the United States. The passion of baseball yet remains a source of positive diplomacy, as confirmed by the declassified U.S. archive, with the establishment of a diplomacy of baseball in 1975 to warm up relations between the two pays45. The "Beisbol Diplomacy" is also used in Nicaragua, notamment46.
